A BIG thank you to Geoff Eamons & Tim for the excellent condition of the show field. Another big thank you our horse judges Nicky Shipp, Nia Roberts & Rhiannon Breese, Kirsten Tigg & Sian Bates and our wonderful stewards who helped create a lovely atmosphere again this year. It was wonderful to see Stepol Welsh Hero on his lap of honour, and also young “Scooby” Hughes dressed as a dog and running around as the hound in the horse and hound class. Local girl Hannah Owen was on top form winning in the Tack & turnout, Equitation, Showjumping & Gymkhana classes. The sun shone , the show ran smoothly with entries up on last year. There were smiles on so many little riders faces and numerous competitors who came to thank the organisers at the end. Well done, see you all again next year.
The 2013 Ceiriog Valley Sheepdog Trials and Show will be one to remember. Trials on the Friday started the weekend off with a good competition with plenty of entries and some impressive runs in both classes. From 7.30am on the Saturday the show field was a bustle of committee members finishing preparations, competitors and spectators arriving early for a good parking spot to watch the trials, and a few local jockeys and their ponies having a practice on the show jumps. The competitions started at 8.30am on the dot, and the showground seemed heaving with people enjoying themselves in no time! From the variety of dogs in the Companion Dog Show, to the fantastic efforts in the Fancy Dress Competition in the Horse Section, over 90 entries in the Sheep Classes and over 75 dogs running in the Open Trials there was plenty to see. A highlight in any show is the Sheep Shearing Competition and the show was delighted to welcome two “celebrities” in the shearing and wool handling realms. Local boy, Richard Jones Champion Shearer of Wales 2013 gave show goers a shearing demonstration with commentary from Mr Norman Green, followed by an attempt to shear a lamb as quickly as he could which he did in 23.9 seconds!!! The Society was also delighted to welcome Bronwen Tango as our Sheep Shearing Judge, who has represented our country on the international stage in Wool Handling Competition coming to the fore on a regular basis. With local trade stands exhibiting local crafts and produce and the raffle ladies selling tickets like hot cakes, and plenty of sunshine the atmosphere on the day was great. An excellent show was had by all and the committee would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work, not only on show day, but all year round, upon which we rely to run the show. This year we have once again received some tremendous financial support, without the generosity of those who donate to the Society, and those that sponsor the day, putting on a great show would not be possible. Thank you all and we hope to have the same success next year! This report was written by Miss Bethan Roberts, Secretary to the Ceiriog Valley Sheepdog Society.
